Why This Month
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. The word Muharram means “sacred” or “forbidden,” showing its special status in Islam. Prophet ﷺ referred to it as “the Month of Allah” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1163)
Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam during which fighting, warfare, and conflicts are prohibited. Muslims are encouraged to spend this month in worship, reflection, and good deeds.
أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ بَعْدَ رَمَضَانَ شَهْرُ اللَّهِ الْمُحَرَّمُ
“The most excellent fast after Ramadan is Allah’s month, al-Muharram.”

The Tenth Day
The word Ashura comes from the term used for ten in Arabic which is Ashara. This day marks as a significant day in the history of Islam. On this day, the tribe of Israel and Prophet Musa (AS) were saved from the Pharaoh of Egypt when they passed the Red Sea. This day also marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussein(RA)
On this day, Allah saved the Children of Israel from the tyranny of Pharaoh, parting the Red Sea for Prophet Musa (AS) and his people.

Though it is considered a weak narration, Ashura is potentially “the day that the ship of Prophet Nuh settled upon Mount Judi, and so Prophet Nuh fasted the day out of thankfulness to Allah”

On 10 Muharram, 61 AH (680 CE), Husayn ibn Ali (RA), the beloved grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, was martyred along with his family and companions at Karbala, in present-day Iraq
صِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ أَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ السَّنَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَهُ
“Fasting on the day of Ashura – I hope that Allah will expiate the sins of the preceding year.”

اے اللہ! ہمیں واقعۂ کربلا کے پیغام کو سمجھنے، حق پر ثابت قدم رہنے، ظلم کے سامنے جھکنے سے بچنے اور دینِ حق کے لیے اخلاص، صبر اور استقامت کے ساتھ جینے کی توفیق عطا فرما
یا اللہ! ہمیں حضرت موسیٰؑ جیسا اعتماد اور توکل عطا فرما کہ ہم اپنے وقت کے فرعونوں کے سامنے ڈٹ جائیں۔ چاہے جتنے بھی سمندر ہماری راہ میں رکاوٹ بنیں، ہمارے دلوں کو اس یقین سے بھر دے کہ راستہ بنانے والا صرف تو ہی ہے
یا اللہ! ہمیں حضرت نوحؑ جیسا صبر اور ثابت قدمی عطا فرما۔ جب ہماری محنت کا نتیجہ فوراً نظر نہ آئے تو ہمارے دلوں کو بے صبری اور ناامیدی سے محفوظ فرما۔ ہمارے دلوں کو لوگوں کی تعریف و تنقید سے ایسا بے نیاز کر دے کہ ہماری واحد فکر تیری رضا ہو
اے اللہ! امتِ مسلمہ کے دلوں میں حق کی محبت، باطل سے نفرت، اتحاد، بصیرت اور عدل کو زندہ فرما، اور ہمیں ہر ایسے فتنے سے محفوظ رکھ جو دین، امت اور انسانیت کو نقصان پہنچانے والا ہو
آمین یا رب العالمین۔
